General Ledger Staff Accountant

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for reconciling various balance sheets accounts, participating in the month end close process, preparing reserve analyses and account reconciliations, and assisting in the year-end audit. The General Ledger Accountant reports to the General Ledger Accounting Supervisor and interacts with different levels of field and corporate finance personnel.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function listed below. 

 

         Prepare journal entries and ensure that the general ledger activity is accurate and complete

  • Prepare reconciliations of general ledger accounts and resolve any accounting discrepancies
  • Analyze reserve estimates to ensure balances are accurate and complete
  • Reconcile cash accounts
  • Prepare balance sheet fluctuation analysis
  • Document General Ledger procedures
  • Interact with internal auditors and prepare supporting materials during audits
  • Assist in year-end audits and quarterly reviews
  • Provide general accounting support to field personnel and corporate managers
  • Participate in various special projects as assigned

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Education: 

Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Accounting or Finance, from accredited four-year college or university

 

Experience:

2 - 3 years of General Ledger Accounting experience

 

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

None required

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of general accounting and some financial analysis
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout the company
  • Ability to work quickly, logically and accurately
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and consistent follow-through
  • Intermediate to Advanced experience with Excel and Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with Oracle or other G/L accounting software preferred
